Greetings from Thika.
I want to share with you on this pertinent subject. I have personally experienced this aspect in various ways during my active engagement in employment. Mine is to share with your different ways that have made me believe in this phenomenon.
The dictionary defines demotion as reduction in position or status. It normally carries negative connotation. As a Human Resource practitioner, the term is used mainly in change of position which is normally brought by non-performance, right sizing in an organizing, organizational mergers and acquisitions, financial constraints in the place of work etc. These are issues that happen on daily basis in the lives of individuals. There are many ways people handle them and some survive through. Some are held by them and they have been affected forever and thus the need to share the beauty of considering this line of thought.
If these are ways in which people are demoted, what do we call someone who retired and goes to become a business person, a person who resigns from a job in a given area to be close to their family in a lesser position, a President who finished his term and becomes a senior citizen, a good employee who because of an accident assumes a lesser role that suits their current status, a medicine student who leaves medicine and becomes an entrepreneur. A Bishop who assumes the role of a local church pastor. Do we call these demotions or what name do we call them? The hidden secret on unlocking this is found in the two words – position and status. The paradox continues in everyday life and there may not be sufficient answers to these scenarios but a clear understanding of its origin is what will make the biggest difference.
However, in the next episodes I want to share from my personal experiences why I don’t belief in demotions. The experiences were not only confusing but done within a philosophy that I myself did not understand by then but now I do. This underpinning has enabled me to share with you these amazing findings that I belief will transform our lives and thoughts about this aspect.
Bye for now and God willing, welcome to my next episode that occurred in a school setting back in 2016.
