A Plate Of Hope

A PLATE OF HOPE

Feeding Program for Vulnerable Children in Nakutan Village, Turkana County, Kenya

Rationale

Turkana County faces chronic food insecurity due to prolonged droughts, limited agricultural potential, and extreme poverty that have existed for decades. Children’s malnutrition rates are among the highest in Kenya, impacting their physical and cognitive development. This feeding program aims to combat hunger and malnutrition, provide a foundation for healthy growth, and encourage school attendance and learning. Nakutan village is in the Loima sub-county of Turkana County. It has about 150 children aged between 0 and 14. The program aims to start with one-third of these, which is 50 children selected according to their vulnerability status.

  1. Provide nutritious meals to 50 vulnerable children twice a week for one year.
